President Hopes for Closer Iran-Cuba Ties

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani congratulated the Cuban nation and government on the anniversary of the victory of the country’s revolution, and called for the further expansion of relations between the two countries.

In a message to President of the Council of State of Cuba Raul Castro on Wednesday, Rouhani expressed the hope that the growing bilateral relations which are the outcome of the will of two countries’ officials, would be further promoted.

President Rouhani further wished good health and success to the Cuban president and his government and prosperity for the Cuban nation.

The Cuban Revolution (1953–1959) was an armed revolt conducted by Fidel Castro's 26th of July Movement and its allies against the government of then-president Fulgencio Batista. The revolution began in July 1953 and finally ousted Batista on 1 January 1959, replacing his government with a revolutionary socialist state.

The expansion of cooperation with Latin American countries has been among the top priorities of the Islamic Republic's foreign policy over the past few years.
