Commander Rejects Possibility of Thaw in Iran-US Relations

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A senior Iranian military commander reminded Washington and its allies’ long record of hostility toward the Iranian nation and emphasized that the Islamic Republic will never trust the arrogant states.

“The Iranian nation will never forget the wounds inflicted by the crimes committed by countries like Britain and the US as well as their allies,” Deputy Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Brigadier General Massoud Jazayeri said.

He made the remarks in a ceremony to mark the anniversary of the victory of a military operation code-named “Karbala 5” during the 1980-1988 Iraqi imposed war on Iran.

Referring to the rule of money, force and deception in the hegemonic states, the Iranian commander said, "Any confidence in these (hegemonic) governments, would be the same as plunging into the abyss of destruction."

“Given the arrogant nature of the US, (Iran’s) relations with the country will not be resumed,” he noted.

He also said that the successful experience of the Islamic Revolution in 1979 is indicative of the fact that hegemonic regimes like the US “are brought to their knees” in the face of freedom-seeking nations.

US embassy in Tehran was shut down in 1979 following its seizure by Iranian university students.

On November 4, 1979, and less than a year after the victory of the Islamic Revolution that toppled a US-backed monarchy, Iranian university students seized the US embassy in Tehran, which had become a center of espionage.

The students who seized the embassy later published documents proving that the compound was indeed engaged in plans and measures to overthrow the Islamic republic.
