Uzbekistan’s Irmatov to Officiate Asian Cup Opener

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Ravshan Irmatov from Uzbekistan has been selected to officiate in the 2015 AFC Asian Cup opening game between Australia and Kuwait.

Reigning AFC Referee of the Year will be assisted by compatriot Abdukhamidullo Rasulov and Bakhadyr Kochkarov from Kyrgyzstan. Mohd Amirul will be the fourth official with his fellow Malaysian Mohd Yusri named as the fifth official.

The opening match will be held at the Melbourne Rectangular Stadium on Friday.

The 37-year-old from Tashkent set an all-time record for refereeing at the FIFA World Cup when he officiated the Brazil 2014 quarter-final between the Netherlands and Costa Rica to take his tally of matches to nine,  beating the previous record of eight he shared with Joël Quiniou of France, Benito Archundia of Mexico and Uruguay's Jorge Larrionda, afcasiancup.com reported.
