Iran, AU Sign MoU for Scientific, Technological Cooperation

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran and the African Union on Thursday signed a memorandum of understanding for scientific and technological cooperation.

In a ceremony in Tehran, Iran's Vice-President for Science and Technology Affairs Sorena Sattari and African Union Commissioner for Human Resources, Science and Technology Paul Martial Ikunga signed the agreement.

Sattari in a press conference hailed the agreement and described cooperation between Tehran and the AU as a positive step forward.

“Consisting of more than 50 countries, the African Union is a large and good market for the export of science-based products,” he said, stressing that in the coming years, Iran will certainly be a major exporter to African countries in the area of science and technology. 

The Iranian official referred to medical equipment, nano-technology, bio-technology and medicine production as some of the areas in which there is opportunity for exports to countries in Africa.

AU Commissioner Paul Martial Ikunga also hailed the start of scientific and technological cooperation between Iran and the African Union and described his trip to Tehran as positive.

He added that there is good ground for cooperation between the two sides in the oil industry, science-based areas, etc.
