Iran Condemns Terrorist Attack in Lebanon’s Tripoli

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Foreign Ministry strongly condemned a deadly suicide bombing in the northern Lebanese city of Tripoli that killed nine people and wounded dozens on Saturday evening.

Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Marziyeh Afkham said on Sunday that perpetrators of the “ominous act” have targeted Lebanon’s unity, solidarity and stability.

She also offered condolences to the Lebanese government and nation and the bereaved families of the victims.

“We are confident that Lebanon’s vigilant officials and leaders and political groups will thwart the plots hatched by the ill-wishers for creating rift among them, through strengthened unity and national dialogue,” Afkham noted.

On Saturday evening, two suicide bombers killed nine people and wounded 37 others in an attack on a cafe in the Jabal Mohsen neighbourhood of Tripoli.

Al-Qaeda's Syria branch, the Al-Nusra Front, claimed responsibility for the attack via Twitter.
