Iranian VP Congratulates New Mauritian Prime Minister

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s First Vice President Eshaq Jahangiri in a message to Anerood Jugnauth congratulated him on his appointment as the new prime minister of Mauritius.

In his message on Monday, Jahangiri expressed the hope that ties between Tehran and Port Louis would increasingly develop in all fields through joint efforts by the officials of the two countries.

He also wished health and success for Jugnauth and the Mauritian nation.

Sir Anerood Jugnauth was appointed to serve his sixth term as prime minister by President Kailash Purryag on 14 December 2014 following his party's victory in the general elections.

He had served as prime minister from 1982 to 1995 and again from 2000 to 2003. He was also president of Mauritius from 2003 to 2012.

Republic of Mauritius is an island nation in the Indian Ocean about 2,000 km off the southeast coast of the African continent.
