China Advances to Asian Cup Last Eight

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – China's national football team on Wednesday beat Uzbekistan 2-1 and qualified for the 2015 AFC Asian Cup quarter-final.

Odil Ahmedov gave the lead Uzbekistan in the 22nd minute at the Brisbane Stadium.

China drew level after 10 minutes into the second half when Wu Xi scored, then snatched the lead with a spectacular solo strike from substitute Sun Ke in the 68th minute.

"Today we played a very, very beautiful match," China coach Alain Perrin said.

"Our players were nervous at the beginning and we (conceded) a goal, but I'm very happy my players kept playing football in our style. We got more space in the second half and our opponents got tired."

China began the tournament with a 1-0 win over Saudi Arabia and Uzbekistan also edged North Korea in Group B.

The Saudis stayed in the hunt for qualification earlier in the day with a 4-1 win over North Korea, who was all but eliminated.
