Asian Cup: South Korea Beats Host Australia

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - South Korea defeated Australia 1-0 in the 2015 AFC Asian Cup in sweltering conditions in front of 48,513 at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane on Saturday.

Lee Jeong-hyeop scored the only goal of the match in the 33rd minute.

Australia needed just a draw to top the tournament’s A group.

Australia put the Korean team under pressure but goalkeeper Kim Jin-hyeon pulled off several stunning saves.

The Socceroos could have scored late when Robbie Kruse was left one on one with the goalkeeper, but failed to open the goal.

The loss means Australia finish second and will stay in Brisbane for a quarter-final against the winner of group B, which should come from China, Saudi Arabia and Uzbekistan.

South Korea will play the Group B runner-up on Thursday.
