Head of Iran’s Jews Denounces French Sacrilegious Cartoon
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Leader of Iranian Jews Rabbi Mashallah Golestani-Nejad slammed the publication of a sacrilegious cartoon depicting the Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) by the French weekly, Charlie Hebdo.
Speaking to the Tasnim News Agency, Rabbi Golestani-Nejad condemned the blasphemous move and criticized the French government for failing to punish those behind publication of the cartoon.
He said when Charlie Hebdo first published cartoons insulting Islam’s Prophet, the magazine’s officials should have been punished, but the French government failed to do so.
“Insulting religions is insulting God,” he underlined, adding that all the divine prophets were sent by God to guide humanity and that no one has the right to desecrate them.
On January 14, the French satirical magazine, whose Paris office was attacked by two gunmen on January 7, once again published a cartoon of the Prophet on the cover of its new edition despite warnings that the move is provocative.
The weekly magazine first published insulting cartoons of Islam’s Prophet in 2006.
In 2007, a Paris court dismissed a lawsuit filed by two Muslim organizations to sue the paper for representing the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in cartoons.
