Asian Cup: South Korea Beats Uzbekistan in Extra Time

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – South Korea football team booked a place in the 2015 AFC Asian Cup quarter-final after beating Uzbekistan on Thursday.

In the match held at the Rectangular Stadium, Son Heung-Min scored a brace in extra time to give the Taeguk Warriors a 2-0 win over Uzbekistan.

Bayer Leverkusen winger found the back of the net with a diving heard in the 104th minute.

With one minute remaining, substitute fullback Cha Du-ri charged down the right wing and centered for Son to crash the ball left-footed into the top of the net.

South Korea, seeking its first Asian title since 1960, had faced some nervous moments in the second period of extra time but held firm to set up a meeting with Iran or Iraq in Sydney on Monday to book a place in the final.

The quarter-final was the first match to finish all square after 90 minutes in 25 games at the tournament.
