Iran Fails in Iraq's Alaa Abdul Zahra Protest

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has dismissed Iran’s appeal questioning the Iraqi Alaa Abdul Zahra's eligibility to represent his team during clash against Team Melli (the Iranian national football team).

The protest claims Alaa Abdul-Zahra should have been suspended after submitting a positive doping test while playing for his Iranian club side Tractor Sazi.

AFC has confirmed that they have rejected a protest from Iran over the eligibility of Iraqi midfielder.

Iraq beat Iran 7-6 on penalties in the 2015 AFC Asian Cup quarter-final after the match finished 3-3 at the end of extra time and is scheduled to play South Korea in a semi-final in Sydney Monday.
