Kurds on Verge of Full Control over Syria’s Kobane

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Kurdish forces will flush out the ISIL terrorists from Syria’s northern border town of Kobane within the next few hours and will take full control of the war-ridden city, a local official announced.

Farhan Haj Issa, member of the leadership council of Kobane, told Tasnim in an exclusive interview on Monday evening that the embattled city will be completely liberated soon.

“Within the few next hours, the Kobane region will be completely cleansed of the ISIL terrorists and the ultimate victory will be announced,” he said.

He noted that the ISIL militants are no more considered a threat to the Syrian town, known in Arabic as Ain al-Arab, adding that only “small groups” of terrorists have remained in eastern parts of the town.

Kurdish forces will soon dislodge and kill the militants, Haj Issa said.

He also added that a number of the terrorists fled to Turkey on Sunday night.

In September, the ISIL militants captured some 300 Kurdish villages near Kobani and thrust into the town itself. Tens of thousands of refugees spilled across the border into Turkey.

The battle for the town has claimed the lives of more than 1,600 people, most of them ISIL militants.
