Iran’s Judiciary Chief, Speaker Condole Loss of Lives in Afghanistan Avalanches

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Judiciary Chief Ayatollah Sadeq Amoli Larijani and Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani in separate messages expressed their condolences over the death of people in recent avalanches in Afghanistan.

In a Sunday message, Ayatollah Amoli Larijani condoled with Afghanistan’s Judiciary Chief Abdulsalam Azimi over the death of nearly 250 people in the Panjshir valley, northeast of Kabul.

Speaker Ali Larijani also sent separate messages to Afghanistan’s House Speaker Abdul Rauf Ibrahimi and Senate Chairman Fazel Hadi Muslimyar, and expressed his sympathy with the nation and government of the country.

In a similar message on Sunday, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani also condoled with his Afghan counterpart Mohammad Ashraf Ghani and the nation of Afghanistan over the avalanche victims.

Several days of severe weather and heavy snow in the Paryan district of Panjshir province in Afghanistan led to a series of deadly avalanches that collapsed houses and buried residents.

Afghan officials say that nearly 250 people had been killed in the avalanches, dozens more had been injured, and thousands displaced.
