Iranian MPs Condemn ISIL’s Terrorist Moves in Syria, Iraq

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Iranian lawmakers strongly condemned the recent terrorist moves carried out by militants from the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) group, including killing and kidnapping dozens of Assyrian Christian men, women and children in Syria.

In a statement issued on Sunday, 215 Iranian MPs condemned the “inhumane moves” made by the ISIL terrorist group in Syria.

The group kidnapped 220 members of the Assyrian community on February 23 when storming the town of Tal Tamr in northeastern Syria.

The parliamentarians also decried the destruction of ancient artefacts by the ISIL terrorists in Iraq's northern city of Mosul.

On February 27, the ISIL released a video showing its fighters using sledgehammers to smash the ancient artefacts.

The five-minute video shows a group of bearded men in a museum using hammers and drills to destroy several large statues, including one depicting a winged-bull Assyrian protective deity that dates back to 9th century BC.
