Iranian MPs Laud IRGC for Timely Military Drills
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Iranian lawmakers on Sunday praised the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) for holding “timely” military exercises in a strategic naval zones south of the country.
In a statement signed by 220 lawmakers, the Iranian parliamentarians hailed the IRGC for choosing the right time and a sensitive zone to stage the “The Great Prophet-9” drills.
The MPs said the war game, held in Iran’s “most strategic naval point”, showed the country’s military might.
Employment of advanced weapons in the drills indicated that sanctions have failed to hamper Iran’s achievement of modern weaponry, the statement added.
The IRGC held the three-day military exercises this week in the Strait of Hormuz, known as the most strategic waterway in the Persian Gulf.
Units from the IRGC Navy, Ground Force and Aerospace Division took part in the drills.
On the final day of the war game, the IRGC utilized a new strategic weapon for the naval forces.
The first stage of the war game on Wednesday focused on naval tactics. Hundreds of speedboats, armed with missiles, carried out mine-laying operation and also fired 107mm rockets to hit a mock warship, a real-size model of a Nimitz-class aircraft carrier.
Moreover, the Iranian “Nasr” cruise missiles and “Persian Gulf” ballistic missiles were also fired to sink the hypothetical enemy warship.
On Thursday, the focus was on the capabilities and latest accomplishments of the IRGC Ground Force. It flew its reconnaissance drones equipped with powerful cameras and tested its weapons including Ramait roadside mine, Sayyad bounding mine, Asefeh 23mm Gatling gun, Arash shoulder-launched weapon and sniper rifle Siyavash.
During the exercises, the IRGC also launched a new sub-surface launched cruise missile.
