SNSC Secretary Shamkhani Says Good Iran Nuclear Deal Possible

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Shamkhani said there is a chance for a good deal on Iran’s peaceful nuclear program provided that the negotiating parties show honesty and seriousness.

If the negotiating parties are sincere and serious, a good agreement can be achieved which includes respect for the Islamic Republic of Iran’s nuclear rights within the framework of the NPT (Non-Proliferation Treaty), Shamkhani said Sunday in a meeting with Italy's Foreign Minister Paolo Gentiloni.

Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) are in talks to hammer out a final agreement to end more than a decade of impasse over Tehran’s nuclear energy program.

Shamkhani also stressed the need for lifting all the illegal anti-Iran sanctions and for confidence-building behavior (on the part of the G5+1) in response to Tehran’s good will and cooperation.

Elsewhere in his remarks, the Iranian official called for tapping the existing potentials for expanding economic, cultural and political ties between Tehran and Rome.

Gentiloni, for his part, expressed the hope that the nuclear negotiations between Iran and the sextet will result in reaching a comprehensive agreement.

He also reiterated that Rome attaches great significance to its ties with the Islamic Republic of Iran and keenly pursues the policy of enhancing bilateral relations.
