Deputy FM Highlights Iran’s Policy to Boost Regional Cooperation

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A senior Iranian deputy foreign minister underlined that the Islamic Republic’s “principled policy” is to promote cooperation and deepen ties with regional countries.

Speaking in a meeting with ambassadors and charges d'affaires from some Arab countries in Tehran on Monday, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for African and Middle Eastern Affairs Hossein Amir Abdollahian discussed a whole range of issues, including the latest developments in the region, and expounded on Tehran’s policy toward the issues.

He also exchanged views on ways to strengthen Iran’s relations with neighboring countries as well as Arabic-Islamic states and to boost regional cooperation in fight against terrorism and extrimism.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Amir Abdollahian briefed the Arab envoys on the process of negotiations between Iran and the Group 5+1 (the five permanent UN Security Council members plus Germany) over Tehran’s peaceful nuclear program.

Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) are in talks to hammer out a final agreement to end more than a decade of impasse over Tehran’s nuclear activities.

In the most recent round of nuclear talks, Iran and the US held bilateral and multilateral negotiations in the Swiss city of Geneva earlier in February to narrow down the remaining differences ahead of a deadline for a final agreement by July 1.

Diplomats from Iran and six world powers are going to hold a new round of on Tehran’s peaceful nuclear program in Switzerland this week.
