Syrian Army Kills Dozens of Terrorists in Special Operations

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Syrian army has conducted special operations on the outskirts of the capital, Damascus, targeting armed militants' strongholds and killing dozens of them, including a number of commanders of the so-called Jaysh al-Islam terrorist group, military sources said.

A military source in Damascus told Tasnim that during a special operation in the suburbs of Damascus, the Syrian army has managed to kill and arrest a number of commanders of the Jaysh al-Islam terrorist group headed by Zahran Alloush.

He said the Syrian army has killed the terrorists after launching several air strikes against Jaysh al-Islam’s positions in the towns of Duma and Zamalka on the eastern outskirts of Damascus over the past 24 hours.

The source went on to say that 21 terrorists from Jaysh al-Islam were killed during an air strike in Duma, targeting a gathering of the militants.

The source said that in another operation, four militants from Jaysh al-Islam were killed and three others arrested during clashes with Syrian army in the suburb of Damascus.

Syria has been gripped by civil war since March 2011 with the terrorists of Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) currently controlling parts of it, mostly in the east.

The US and its regional allies – especially Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Turkey – have been supporting the terrorist militants operating inside Syria for more than three years.
