Iranian FM Urges Immediate Halt to Military Strikes on Yemen

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif called for an immediate end to the air strikes on the Yemeni capital by Saudi Arabia and its regional allies, saying that such moves will achieve nothing for the aggressors.

"Since the very beginning of the Yemeni crisis, we have called for dialogue among Yemeni groups and the formation of an inclusive government for combating terrorism and Takfiri (extremist) groups, and we believe that is the only solution to the crisis," Zarif said on Thursday.

He stressed that any foreign military act against Yemeni people and its territorial integrity will yield nothing except bloodshed and the massacre of people "just as many civilians were martyred in Sana'a over the past several hours."

Zarif reiterated the necessity for an end to the military aggressions and the start of dialogue to resolve the crisis in Yemen.

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for African and Middle Eastern Affairs Hossein Amir Abdollahian also condemned the invasion of Yemen by Saudi Arabia, saying that the attacks are a violation of Yemen's sovereignty.

He decried any kind of foreign intervention in Yemen and called for the resumption of dialogue in the Arab country.

Saudi Arabia and its Persian Gulf Arab allies late on Wednesday began a military operation in Yemen.

At least 25 Yemeni citizens have been killed in the overnight airstrikes.
