Iranian Deputy FM to Brief MPs on JCPOA on Sunday

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araqchi is slated to go to parliament again to respond to lawmakers' questions about the finalized text of a lasting accord between Iran and six world powers, also known as JCPOA.

“On Sunday, Abbas Araqchi will attend a meeting of the parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission and will respond to the MPs’ questions and ambiguities over the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA),” Alaeddin Boroujerdi, the chairman of the commission, said on Friday.

The session is in line with previous meetings between members of the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission and the top diplomat, who is also one of the members of the Iranian team of nuclear negotiators, he said.

“… I think it would be a good method that ambiguities are raised and his (Araqchi’s) expert and detailed responses are heard,” Boroujerdi told ICANA on Friday.

Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) on July 14 reached a conclusion on a lasting nuclear agreement that would terminate all sanctions imposed on Tehran over its nuclear energy program after coming into force.

The promising prospect of trade with Iran has prompted major European countries to explore the market potential in the populous Middle East nation.

The 159-page deal has its own opponents and proponents both in Iran and the other countries that are parties to the JCPOA, particularly the US.

While the United Nations Security Council has adopted a resolution to endorse the deal, the text of the document needs to be ratified by both Iran's Parliament and the US Congress.
