French Senate Leader, Iran’s Larijani Meet in Tehran

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – President of the French Senate Gerard Larcher and the Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani held a meeting here in Tehran on Saturday.

During the meeting, the two sides conferred on a variety of international issues as well as ways to expand Tehran-Paris parliamentary ties.

Heading a delegation, Larcher arrived in the Iranian capital on Saturday morning, and will stay in the country for four days.

He is scheduled to meet with the Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, Chairman of Iran's Expediency Council Ayatollah Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, and International Adviser to Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ali Akbar Velayati.

He will also hold meetings with Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Shamkhani, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, Mayor of Tehran Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, and head of the Iranian Parliament's Research Center Kazem Jalali.

Larcher’s trip comes weeks ahead of a scheduled visit by President Rouhani to the French capital, which was earlier due to be made in November but was postponed because of terrorist attacks in Paris.

French President Francois Hollande said on Friday that he would host his Iranian counterpart Rouhani at the end of January.
