In a telephone conversation with his Iraqi counterpart Hoshyar Zebari, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif condemned the recent violent attacks by the al-Qaeda-affiliated militants in Iraq that have caused civilian deathes and injuries and displaced a huge number of people.

He assured that Iran will support the Iraqi government and nation in the fight against terrorism.

Zarif also urged “effective international support” for Iraq to help the country deal with the menace of Takfiri terrorists.

Zebari, for his part, expressed gratitude to the Islamic Republic for its political supports for the Iraqi government and nation.

He also underlined the Arab country’s determination to fight against terrorism.

Moreover, both ministers emphasized that the so-called Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) militants as well as the Takfiri groups are the enemy of the whole Iraqis. They also highlighted the need for stronger national unity to counter the terrorists.

The ISIL armed terrorists have in recent days carried out a violent assault on some Iraqi cities, including the provincial capitals of Mosul and Tikrit.

According to reports, as many as 500,000 people fled Mosul after the militants attacked the city.
