Holder Spain Out of World Cup
TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Defending champion Spain suffered a 2-0 defeat against Chile and was eliminated from the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
The title holder Spain started the campaign with a crushing 5-1 defeat against Netherlands in Group B.
On Thursday, at the Estadio do Maracana in Rio de Janeiro, Spain, who won the European Championship in 2008 and 2012, in addition to the 2010 World Cup, was forced to leave the Brazil.
Eduardo Vargas found the back of the net in the 20th minute and Charles Arranguiz extended Chile’s lead in the 43rd minute.
Netherlands had already defeated Australia 3-2 in the group.
The Dutch and Chile qualified for the next stage with one game in hands.
