No Nuclear Deal Unless Economic Sanctions Terminated: Iran’s President

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani underscored on Thursday that Tehran will not clinch any nuclear deal with world powers unless the entire economic sanctions imposed on the country are swiftly terminated under a final agreement.

“We will not sign any agreement unless the whole economic sanctions are terminated on the very first day of implementation of the deal,” Rouhani said in an address to a ceremony, held in Tehran to mark Iran’s National Nuclear Technology Day.

He also made it clear that nobody can ever restrain Iran from making scientific progress.

“Our nation will keep to the path to scientific development. As mentioned explicitly by our… negotiators in hundreds of meetings, we will not relinquish peaceful nuclear technology,” the president stressed.

Pointing to a nuclear statement issued by Iran and world powers after the latest round of nuclear talks in Switzerland, President Rouhani said the country’s Natanz site will keep enriching uranium, more than 1,000 centrifuge machines will remain at Fordow and a heavy water reactor in Arak will be used to produce medicine.

“We will continue development by relying on the abilities of our… scientists on the basis of our national interests,” he added.

This year’s National Nuclear Technology Day in Iran comes after Tehran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) on April 2 reached a framework nuclear agreement after more than a week of intensive negotiations in Lausanne, Switzerland, with both sides committed to push for a final, comprehensive accord until the end of June.

The framework provides a series of solutions that will be the basis of a comprehensive joint plan of action.
