Iran Urges China’s Greater Role in Regional Peace

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Secretary of Iran’s Expediency Council Mohsen Rezaei said China can play a more active role in helping peace and stability in the region.

Speaking in a meeting in Tehran with a visiting Chinese delegation, Rezaei said that by getting more active in the fight against the ISIL terrorist group, Beijing can greatly contribute to regional peace and stability.

He added that Iran is ready to help China in countering infiltration of Takfiri groups.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Rezaei described the level of trade exchanges between Iran and China as inadequate, stressing that bilateral ties and cooperation can significantly grow after the implementation of a recently finalized nuclear deal between Iran and world powers and the resulting termination of anti-Iran sanctions.

Tehran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) on July 14 reached a conclusion over the text of a comprehensive 159-page deal on Iran’s nuclear energy program.

The nuclear deal, also known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), would terminate all nuclear-related sanctions imposed on Iran after coming into force.
