Iran to Get 9 Airbus Planes in 2016
TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Head of Iran’s Civil Aviation Organization (CAO) Ali Abedzadeh said the country will receive nine of the new passenger planes it has purchased from Airbus in 2016.
Nine jets purchased from Airbus will join Iran’s civil aviation fleet this year, Abedzadeh told reporters on Saturday.
He also pointed to the wave of international enthusiasm for trade with Iran, noting that aviation companies from Brazil, Canada and Japan are ready to launch talks with Iran.
During Iranian President Hassan Rouhani’s trip to France in January, Iran and Airbus clinched a deal on a major order, which includes dozens of Airbus’s biggest-selling jets.
Iran has agreed to buy 118 Airbus jets, including 45 A320 single-aisle aircraft, 45 A330 wide-bodies, 16 A350 twin-aisle aircraft, and 12 A380’s.
Later, Iran’s national airline, Iran Air, finalized a contract with ATR aircraft manufacturer to purchase 20 turboprops.
President Rouhani unveiled plans in February for turning the country into a big power in the civil aviation industry in light of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), a final nuclear deal between Tehran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) that came into force on January 16 and terminated all nuclear-related anti-Iran sanctions.
