Iraqi Forces Retake More Terrorist-Held Areas in Anbar Province
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iraqi Army troops backed by volunteer forces managed to recapture more areas from the Daesh terrorist group (also known as ISIS or ISIL) in the western province of Anbar, killing dozens of the foreign-backed militants.
According to the Arabic-language Al-Ahed news website, a number of Daesh terrorists were killed and injured in an air strike by Iraqi fighter jets on their positions in al-Farahat, Anbar Province.
In separate operations in the province, including in the city of Saqlawiyah, Iraqi Army troops pounded positions of the terrorists, killing dozens of them.
Iraqi security forces also liberated Bastamiya and al-Dabiya in Anbar Province, and hoisted the Iraqi flag there after clearing the areas from Daesh militants.
Iraqi forces have managed to liberate key areas in the Arab country from the occupation of Daesh over the past months with the most notable being Anbar’s provincial capital of Ramadi.
Preparations are underway for the recapture of Fallujah, which is the second largest city in the sprawling province of Anbar.
The militants blitzed vast areas in western Iraq in summer of 2014 months after they captured territories in the north. Iraqi officials have vowed that they would purge Daesh from Iraqi soil in 2016.
