Iran’s Zob Ahan Beaten by Al Ahli in AFC Champions League

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Zob Ahan of Iran lost to 10-man Al Ahli of Saudi Arabia 2-1 in the 2017 AFC Champions League on Tuesday.

Abdulfattah Asiri pounced inside the box to give Al Ahli the lead in the 29th minute.

In the first half stoppage time Al Ahli defender Motaz Hawsawi was sent off after bringing down Honduran international Jerry Bengtson in the box and Zob Ahan captain Mehdi Rajabzadeh coolly found the back of the net from the penalty spot as the sides went in level.

Omar Al Soma’s 86th minute free-kick secured a dramatic late 2-1 win for Al Ahli at Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex.

Al Ahli secured back-to-back wins and leapfrogged Al Ain at the top of the standings after the Emiratis claimed a 3-2 victory at Bunyodkor in Tuesday’s earlier Group C encounter.
