Iran, Belarus to Expand Cooperation in Sports

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Iran intends to expand cooperation in sports with Belarus, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Belarus Mostafa Oveisi said.

Oveisi met with representatives of the Belarusian Wrestling Federation and the National Greco-Roman Team on March 9.

Belarus will participate in the Greco-Roman World Cup in the city of Abadan in the south of Iran.

Alexander Medved, a Soviet athlete, freestyle wrestler and three-time Olympic champion attended the meeting in the capacity of an honorary guest.

The event will provide impetus for the further development of sport cooperation between the two countries, BelTA reported.

 The Ambassador expressed his hope for the successful performance of the Belarusian team at the World Championships in Iran.

In addition, mutual understanding has been reached on a number of issues. Plans have been made to sign an agreement on cooperation between the federations of Belarus and Iran. Conditions will be prepared for setting up training grounds in Belarus in the summer time and in Iran in the winter time and also for joint training.
