Iran Raps Manchester Terrorist Attack

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Foreign Ministry condemned a suicide bomb attack in England’s Manchester that killed at least 22 people at a concert, calling for joint action against violence and terrorism originating from extremist and Takfiri ideologies.

Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi on Tuesday expressed condolences to the families of victims of the terrorist attack that killed at least 22 and injured 59 others at Manchester Arena late Monday.

Qassemi said Iran believes that last night’s attack in Manchester and a terrorist attack that killed 10 Iranian border guards at the common border with Pakistan in late April have both their roots in the same ideologies that favor violent and inhumane measures.

All countries that have been victims of the radical and Takfiri ideologies of terrorist groups should join hands for serious, targeted, and sincere action against terrorism, he underlined.

The spokesman then noted that fake and spurious coalitions against terrorism or attempts to mislead the public over the origins of extremism have only resulted in the “cancerous spread of” terrorists around the world.

Terrorism would only be uprooted through fierce determination and comprehensive mechanisms without any double standards, Qassemi added.

Monday’s attack at Manchester Arena was the most deadly attack in Britain in a decade. It was reportedly carried out by a lone suspect carrying a bomb.
