Iran, Germany Discuss Closer Banking Ties

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble explored avenues for promoting banking cooperation between the Islamic Republic and the western European country.

During a meeting in the German capital on Monday, Schaeuble welcomed his country’s enhanced banking cooperation with Iran, saying that German banks are ready to finance economic projects in Iran.

The two sides also discussed efforts made by German banks to reinforce their cooperation with the Islamic Republic.

The German minister also called for the full implementation of the 2015 nuclear deal between Tehran and world powers.

Diplomatic relations between Iran and European countries have improved greatly since the deal, also known as Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), came into force in January 2016.

Zarif arrived in the German capital of Berlin on the first leg of his European tour to participate in the annual meeting of European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR) and hold talks with senior German officials. He is scheduled to leave Germany for Italy as the second and final leg of his European tour.
