Iran, Qatar Eager to Bolster Economic Ties

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Iranian president and the emir of Qatar discussed plans to promote economic cooperation between the two neighbors.

In a telephone conversation with Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani on Tuesday, President Ebrahim Raisi congratulated the Qatari emir and people on Eid al-Adha (the Festival of the Sacrifice), saying, "With regard to their close views, Iran and Qatar have good potential for the development of bilateral, regional and international cooperation."

Appreciating the efforts made by the emir and prime minister of Qatar in advancing the joint plans and agreements with Iran, Raisi said, "The Islamic Republic of Iran has always stressed on the development of relations with Qatar and considers the development of bilateral relations as something that can further enhance regional and international cooperation between the two countries."

For his part, the emir of Qatar offered his congratulations to the president and people of Iran on Eid al-Adha and expressed readiness for closer economic cooperation and investment in Iran.

“With regard to the good dialogue and negotiations that have been carried out in this regard, we are ready to hold the Joint Commission of Economic Cooperation in the near future," he stated.

Last week, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian visited Qatar to weigh plans for the expansion of economic and trade relations between the two energy-rich nations.

During his stay in Doha, the top Iranian diplomat discussed ways to increase the volume of trade exchanges between Iran and Qatar, facilitate the economic and mercantile activities of the private sectors, promote cooperation in the transportation industry, specifically maritime transportation, and give a boost to the activities of the two countries’ ports for the transport of goods and passengers.
