Loitering Munitions Hit Targets in Iranian Army Drill

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Iranian Army Ground Force destroyed ground targets with homegrown purpose-built loitering munitions during a war game.

The exercise, code-named Eqtedar (Power) 1402, involves troops from all units of the Army Ground Force and will last for two days in a vast area of Isfahan Province.

The Army units have employed loitering munitions in the war game to hit fixed and moving targets on the ground in a range of 10 kilometers.

Sina and Fateh are the two Iranian loitering munitions, also known as suicide or exploding drones, which can loiter around a specific area until a target is located.

The homegrown weapons are furnished with warheads weighing from 300 to 1,000 grams and can wait passively in the air for 10 to 15 minutes before hitting various targets, such as the gatherings of hostile forces, during a ground battle.

In another operation on Friday night, the Army Ground Force’s Airborne Division helicopters, equipped with night-vision systems, carried out nocturnal sorties to dispatch troops.

Commander of the Iranian Army Ground Force’s Airborne Division General Yousef Qorbani has said that the Army choppers have been furnished with radar jamming systems, night-vision cameras, and long-range missiles with pinpoint accuracy.

The spokesman for the ongoing drill said on Saturday that the Ground Force units have also launched sophisticated ‘Fath-360 and ‘Fajr’ long-range missiles in the exercise.

The two missiles, whose operational range varies from 120 to 180 km and can detonate targets at a speed of Mach 4, are considered the Ground Force’s trump card in battles, the spokesperson said.

The Army has announced that the war game conforms with the new combat structure of the Ground Force, which includes weapons and tactics that can hit targets in long ranges with precision strikes, are smart, and can be automated and integrated into networks.
