Iran, Qatar Mull Connection of Electricity Grids via Sea

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Connecting the electricity grids of Iran and Qatar is one of the issues on the agenda of the 9th Iran-Qatar Joint Economic Cooperation Commission.

The two countries have already agreed to exchange 1,000 megawatts of electricity. They signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in the field of electrical connection during a visit by Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi to Qatar in 2021.

Iran has established the exchange of electrical energy with all the countries that share a land border with it but the infrastructures of connecting the electrical grid via sea with the neighbors that share a water border have not yet been materialized.

It seems that Qatar is the first country among the Persian Gulf littoral states that will witness the connection of Iran’s electricity grid to its own.

The 9th Iran-Qatar Joint Economic Cooperation Commission kicked off in Tehran on Saturday to discuss bilateral ties in the relevant field and issues of mutual interest.
