More Human Remains Found in Gaza Hospital after Israeli Attacks: Rights Group
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Amid ongoing efforts to recover victims of Israeli attacks in Gaza, Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor reports the discovery of additional decomposed bodies inside al-Shifa Hospital, marking one of the largest massacres against Palestinians, according to the group's founder Ramy Abdu.
In a series of social media posts, Ramy Abdu, founder and chairman of Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor, stated that operations to uncover bodies killed by the Israeli army at al-Shifa Hospital persist. He shared a "shocking" video depicting rescue teams and forensic experts discovering more decomposed bodies, reinforcing the severity of the situation. Abdu expressed grave concern, asserting, "It seems we are witnessing one of the largest massacres committed by Israel against the Palestinian people in history."
The footage provided validation to the Geneva-based rights group's earlier report on field execution operations carried out by Israeli forces during the recent attack on al-Shifa. Abdu highlighted the harrowing aftermath, stating, "Horror: Doctors, nurses, displaced persons, administrators at the hospital, children, women." He emphasized that dozens of bodies were subjected to execution in the field, corroborating the organization's findings.
According to Abdu, the Israeli army purportedly placed the bodies into pits it had dug. The discovery comes in the wake of renewed attacks on al-Shifa Hospital by Israeli forces starting on March 18, alongside a subsequent two-week siege. Despite the withdrawal of Israeli tanks and vehicles on April 1, the Gaza Health Ministry reported the recovery of numerous bodies, some in advanced stages of decomposition, within the hospital complex.
Al-Shifa Hospital, Gaza's largest medical facility, has provided refuge to thousands of Palestinians fleeing Israeli incursions into the northern territories. However, Israeli military claims allege the hospital's association with activities orchestrated by the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas, which the latter vehemently denies.
Notably, the World Health Organization (WHO) chief declared al-Shifa's functionality compromised due to prolonged Israeli aggression, echoing concerns raised by the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA). In its latest update on Gaza, OCHA described al-Shifa as "completely non-functional" following a deadly siege, necessitating extensive efforts to render the facility safe and accessible again.
Moreover, a WHO-led assessment on April 5 underscored the urgent need to clear unexploded ordnance and evaluate the hospital's restoration prospects, highlighting the critical healthcare void left in northern Gaza.
Israel initiated the war in Gaza on October 7. Since the commencement of the offensive, the Tel Aviv regime's actions have resulted in the deaths of 33,207 Palestinians and injuries to nearly 75,933 others.
