COVID Pandemic Claims over 200 More Lives in Iran

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The death toll from the COVID-19 pandemic in Iran is about to hit 138,000 after 201 more patients succumbed to the disease in the past 24 hours, the Health Ministry said.

Figures released by the ministry on Sunday show that the coronavirus has taken the lives of 201 patients over the past 24 hours, bringing the total death toll since the outbreak of the pandemic in February 2020 to 137,948.

According to the statistics, 5,586 new cases of COVID-19 infection have been reported across the country over the past 24 hours, with 1,014 of them hospitalized.

More than 6.73 million individuals have recovered or been discharged from hospitals out of a total of 7,089,890 who have contracted the disease, the ministry added.

Some 3,722 victims of COVID-19 are in severe condition and are being treated in intensive care facilities, it said.

The ministry also said that over 63.14 million Iranians have received the first dose of the coronavirus vaccine, over 55.75 million have received the second dosage, and more than 23.98 million have gotten the booster shots.

The number of people infected with COVID-19 across the world has surpassed 445 million and the death toll has exceeded 6 million.
