Esteghlal Remains Top of IPL Table
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Tehran's popular football team, Esteghlal, defeated Saipa 2-0 in the Iran Pro League (IPL) on Sunday to stay on the top of the table.
Arash Borhani scored his 100th goal for Esteghlal in the 55th minutes. Boubacar Kebe was on target for the team in the 75th minute.
In other matches, Foolad edged Malavan thanks to an 89th-goal from Mehrdad Jama’ati.
Naft humiliated Tractor Sazi of Tabriz 3-0 in Tehran’s Takhti Stadium.
Reza Norouzi scored twice in the 46th and 55th minutes and Mojtaba Shiri rubbed salt into their wounds in the 90th minute.
In Shiraz, Persepolis of Tehran was held to a 1-1- draw against struggling Fajr Sepasi.
Persepolis defender Jalal Hossein put the visitors into the lead in the 55th minute and Jalaleddin Alimohammadi equalized the match 10 minutes later.
Gostaresh Foolad and Mes also played out a goalless draw in Tabriz.
Esteghlal and Foolad are top with 50 points, followed by Naft on 47, Sepahan on 46 and Persepolis on 45.
