IAEA Concerned about Safety of Ukraine’s N. Sites

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) would possibly discuss security of Ukraine’s nuclear facilities at its Board of Governors meeting on Monday, a diplomatic source close to the UN nuclear watchdog said.

The IAEA Board of Governors session opened today in Vienna, Austria. The nuclear authority is going to look into 2014 nuclear risks, the progress on the IAEA nuclear safety plan.

Meanwhile, the diplomatic source hasn’t ruled out that Ukraine’s nuclear infrastructure could be up for discussion at the watchdog’s board meeting, considering the instability, RIA reported.

Ukraine has five active nuclear reactors that are used to generate electricity, the diplomat said, adding that IAEA may look at the options to secure their safety after the February 22 coup.
