Iranian, Omani FMs Discuss Closer Bilateral Ties

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and his Omani counterpart Youssef bin Alawi held talks on various issues, including expansion of bilateral relations as well as regional and international developments.

The two foreign ministers met on the sidelines of the 17th Ministerial Meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) in Algeria.

During the meeting, the two sides also emphasized the need to strengthen the role of the NAM organization to promote international peace and security through the cooperation of independent countries.

Zarif arrived in Algiers late on Tuesday to participate in the meeting and explain the Islamic Republic’s views on international issues.

The Iranian minister is heading a high-ranking delegation. During his visit, Zarif is accompanied by Marziyeh Afkham, Iran' foreign ministry spokeswoman, Abbas Araqchi, the deputy foreign minister for legal and international affairs, Majid Takht Ravanchi, the deputy foreign minister for American and European affairs, Hamid Baeidinejad, the director general of the political and legal affairs in the Iranian foreign ministry, and Reza Ameri, the director general of the Iranian foreign ministry's office for Middle East and North Africa.
