UN Humanitarian Chief Due in Tehran

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The United Nation's Undersecretary General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator plans to pay a visit to Iran this weekend, a UN spokesman said.

“Our Humanitarian Chief and Emergency Relief Coordinator, Valerie Amos, will visit Iran from 17 to 18 August.  She is expected to meet senior officials in Tehran,” Stéphane Dujarric said in a press briefing on Thursday.

He added that Amos’s meetings with Iranian officials “will focus on expanding regional cooperation on humanitarian assistance and strengthening the partnership between Iran and the Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs”.

It will be the second official visit of Amos to Iran in her capacity as the as the UN undersecretary general for humanitarian affairs and emergency relief coordinator.

Amos first visited Iran last September and held talks with Iranian officials, including Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif.

Meantime, Press TV reported that during her visit, Amos also signed an agreement with Iran on providing humanitarian assistance in the Middle East.
