FIVB Men's U-23 World Championship: Iran Beats UAE

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Iran opened the 2015 FIVB Men's U-23 World Championship with a convincing 3-0 (25-16, 25-16, 25-20) win over hosts the United Arab Emirates in Pool A.

Iran's Javad Hosseinabadi was the main offensive weapon with 11 points while UAE's Mohamed Alsuwaidi matched 14 points, which represented an incredible 27 per cent of his team’s total tally of 52.

Iran has been drawn in Pool A of the event along with the UAE, Italy, Cuba, South Korea and Egypt.

Iran is scheduled to meet South Korea on Tuesday.

Pool B consists of Russia, Argentina, title-holder Brazil, Turkey, Mexico and Tunisia.

The second edition of the FIVB Volleyball Men’s U-23 World Championship is held in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates from August 24 to 31.

The 12 teams play a round-robin tournament to determine the ranking from first to sixth.

The top two teams in both pools will progress to the semifinals and finals. The third and fourth placed teams from the pool stage will enter a similar playoff format playing for classification from fifth to eighth.
