Iran to Begin Receiving ATR Planes in November
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – CEO of Airbus Group, Inc. said Iran will get the first turboprop it has purchased from the ATR aircraft manufacturer in November 2016.
Speaking in a meeting at Iran’s Ministry of Road and Urban Development in Tehran, Thomas Enders said the delivery of the 20 turboprops to Iran will begin in November and will last until end of 2018.
Iran’s national airline, Iran Air, finalized a contract with ATR aircraft manufacturer on February 1 to purchase 20 turboprops.
Managing Director of Iran Air Farhad Parvaresh had earlier told the Tasnim News Agency that Iran Air will receive 2 to 4 planes in 2016
The planes can accommodate 70 passengers and will be flown in short routes, he explained.
The business talks for the purchase of the turboprops built by ATR, a joint venture of Airbus and Finmeccanica of Italy, were held during Iranian President Hassan Rouhani’s recent visit to Rome.
The deal follows a contract between Iran and Airbus on a major order, which includes dozens of Airbus’s biggest-selling jets.
Iran has agreed to buy 118 Airbus jets, including 45 A320 single-aisle aircraft, 45 A330 wide-bodies, 16 A350 twin-aisle aircraft, and 12 A380’s.
