West Will Have to Honor JCPOA: Iran’s Speaker
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani on Thursday decried the West’s “unfair” conduct and failure to meet some of its commitments under a comprehensive nuclear deal with Iran, saying they will be finally obligated to honor pledges because of Tehran’s options.
Addressing a conference in Tehran on West Asia geopolitical developments, Larijani said the nuclear negotiations between Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) which led to the nuclear deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) in July 2015, secured Iran’s right to enriching uranium.
However, he added, the West behaved unfairly on certain commitments under the JCPOA.
“But they will be obligated to honor their commitments, because we have options that would make them regret (their failure to meet their undertakings),” Larijani stressed.
His comments came amid growing pessimism about Washington’s sincerity in implementing the JCPOA, which came into force in January.
On Wednesday, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei said major global banks’ reluctance to work with Iran results from Washington’s intimidating policies and its push for provoking Iranophobia.
The Leader explained that the United States’ obstructive measures in the way of Iran’s banking ties with the world are a testimony to the fact that Washington is not trustworthy.
On the paper, the Americans claim that banks are free to work with Iran, but in practice, they take different measures to foment Iranophobia, Imam Khamenei added.
