Quds Day Manifestation of Muslim World’s Support for Palestine: Iranian Envoy

DAMASCUS (Tasnim) – Iran’s ambassador to Syria described the worldwide rallies on the International Quds Day as a manifestation of the Islamic world’s same option for countering Israel and supporting Palestine’s struggle for freedom.

In an interview with the Tasnim News Agency on Friday, Mohammad Reza Sheibani hailed the Quds Day as a symbol of efforts to attain the goal of liberation of Palestine.

The Quds Day is also a day of unity among Palestinians, the Arab countries and the Islamic nations in taking up the same option, namely resistance to the Zionist enemy and push for liberation of the whole Palestinian territories, he added.

Each year, the International Quds Day is held on the last Friday of the holy Muslim month of Ramadan.

Residents of Syria’s capital Damascus also held rallies to mark the event.

The event’s raison d'être is renewing support for the Palestinians and fierce denunciation of Israel.

The day is also seen as the legacy of the late founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Imam Khomeini, who officially declared the last Friday of the holy month of Ramadan as International Quds Day back in 1979.
