Syria Army Continues to Make Gains against Terrorists

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Syria’s army and its allies continued to make gains in their fight against foreign-backed Takfiri terrorists in the provinces of Deir ez-Zor and Daraa, inflicting heavy losses on them.

On Sunday, Syrian forces launched a major offensive against Daesh (ISIL or ISIS) terrorists in the area of al-Maqaber in the western province of Deir ez-Zor, killing scores of them and destroying several of their vehicles, Syria's official news agency, SANA, reported.

Separately, army troops shelled the positions of the Jabhat Fatah al-Sham terrorist group (formerly known as al-Nusra Front) on the outskirts of al-Manshiyeh neighborhood in Daraa province.

Large groups of the militants were killed during the clashes.

The report added that the army also destroyed a car belonging to the terrorists while it was moving on the road of Busra al-Harir-Nahita in the northeastern countryside of the province.

Over the past six years, Syria has been fighting foreign-sponsored militancy. UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura estimated in August that more than 400,000 people had been killed in the Syrian crisis until then. The UN has stopped its official casualty count in Syria, citing its inability to verify the figures it receives from various sources.
