Iran’s Larijani to Discuss Counter-Terrorism Cooperation with Japanese Officials
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani, who is on an official visit to Japan, said he would hold talks with senior officials of the East Asian country on a range of issues, including ways to boost Tehran-Tokyo cooperation in counter-terrorism.
Speaking to reporters upon his arrival in Tokyo, Larijani said he has made the visit to expand parliamentary ties between the two countries.
He said he would also hold talks on other issues, including the campaign against terrorism and development of security within the framework of mutual cooperation.
Larijani went on to say that the level of bilateral relations in the past has been desirable but it is necessary to expand them in all areas.
Heading a high-ranking delegation, Larijani left Tehran for Japan on Monday at the official invitation of the speaker of the Japanese parliament.
Iran and Japan have ramped up efforts in recent years to boost bilateral relations in diverse political and economic fields.
Back in May, Japanese Foreign Minister Taro Kono reiterated his country’s support for the 2015 nuclear agreement between Tehran and world powers, saying it is important that Iran and other parties maintain the deal.
