Persepolis Edges Closer to IPL Title with Win over Saipa

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Persepolis football team defeated Saipa, moving five points clear of second-place Tractor Sazi in the Iran Professional League (IPL) on Saturday.

In the match, held in Tehran’s Azadi Stadium, Persepolis defeated Ali Daei’s side 3-2.

Just four minutes after the whistle, Moein Abbasian found back of Alireza Beiranvand’s goal but his goal was cancelled by Bashar Resan in the 32nd minute.

IPL current season’s best goalscorer Ali Alipour was on target four minutes into the second half and Mehdi Torabi scored Persepolis’s third goal in the 62nd minute.

Six minutes later Reza Asadi scored a goal to reduce the deficit.

Saipa was the better team in the last minutes of the match but failed to equalize the match.

Earlier in the day, Zob Ahan had defeated Paykan 1-0 and moved to eighth place.

Persepolis sits top of the table with 54 points. Tractor Sazi is second with 49 points and Esteghlal and Sepahan are third and fourth both with 47 points.
