Pakistan Passenger Plane Crashes Near Karachi Airport (+Video)

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - A Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight en route from Lahore to Karachi has crashed near Karachi airport, according to local reports.

An Airbus A320 carrying at least 90 passengers has crashed in a residential area near Karachi in Pakistan, the country's civil aviation agency spokesperson Abdul Sattar told the newspaper Dawn, Deutsche Welle reported.

Later a spokesman for PIA said the aircraft had 107 people on board, as quoted by Reuters. He explained there were 99 passengers and eight crew members.

Pakistan's Dawn website reports that Sindh Local Government Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah has ordered the city's fire brigades to the crash site to begin rescue operations.

Social media uploaded by journalists showed footage showing plumes of smoke and flames rising from the site of the crash.

Initial reports suggest properties in the area were damaged.
