Turkmenistan Eyes Closer Ties with Iran

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The foreign minister of Turkmenistan hailed his country’s premium and growing relations with Iran, stressing the need to promote cooperation between the two neighbors.

In a telephone conversation on Monday, Turkmenistan’s Foreign Minister Rasit Meredow and his Iranian counterpart Hossein Amirabdollahian talked about the relations between Ashgabat and Tehran.

Pointing to a telephone conversation between the presidents of Iran and Turkmenistan, held earlier in the day, and Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi’s emphasis on the importance of relations between the two countries, Amirabdollahian expressed hope that the Turkmen leader would visit Iran in 2022.

For his part, the senior Turkmen diplomat hailed the premium and growing relations between his country and Iran, stressing the need to develop bilateral ties.

The Iranian president’s contact with his Turkmen counterpart and Iran’s appreciation of Turkmenistan for hosting a recent ECO summit in Ashgabat was a sign of deep respect between the two neighbors, Meredow added.
