Iran’s Amirabdollahian Congratulates Sergei Aleinik on Appointment as Belarus FM

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Foreign Minister congratulated his new Belarusian counterpart, Sergei Aleinik, for his appointment to the post.

In a message on Wednesday, Hossein Amirabdollahian expressed hope for a further expansion of already growing relations between the two countries.

He also hoped that constructive cooperation between the two sides in international bodies will increase and lead to fulfilling mutual interests thanks to Aleinik’s precious experience in the area of foreign policy, the Iranian Foreign Ministry’s website reported.

Belarus’ President Alexander Lukashenko on Tuesday appointed the senior diplomat as the country’s new foreign minister.

“Sergey Aleinik, who has been working in the Foreign Ministry as the first deputy (foreign) minister, has been appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus,” the Belarusian state-run Belta news agency said.

He replaced Vladimir Makei who had held the post since 2012. Makei died of a heart attack on Nov. 26 at the age of 64.
